Though registering your Business on Google seems to be very easy, I have carefully documented the steps here so that you don’t get stuck on along the way.
To be able to register your business on Google you need a Google account, if you’ve not got one yet then register now for free. Done…, alright, let’s proceed.
The Signup Phase
Step 1: Go to google.com/business and sign in with your Google account, you have the option to create one during this signup. It is important to sign up with your business email address.
Step 2: Add your business name. If by default you don’t see the space to enter your business name, click on “Add your business to Google” and select the category to which your business falls into.
Step 3: Add your location address. If you don’t have a physical location or maybe you offer services, you can list your service area.
Step 4: Add your business contact address, phone number and website address. You can add a Facebook page if your business does not have a website.
Step 5: Now, you’re about to get through the first stage of Google My Business signup, thick Yes to receive updates and notifications. Finally, click on Finish and proceed to verify your business.
The Verification Phase
Step 1: Sign in to your Google My Business account and click on Verify now.
Step 2: Select a verification method. By default Google uses postcard by mail as the verification method. But there are other options including email or through the Phone, you can use any of the verification method if your business is eligible for it. Cross check your entry and submit your form.
Step 3: If you’re using the verification by postcard mail, then it may take about four days to two weeks for the postcard to arrive. The postcard contains a five-digit verification code. Sign in and click verify location then input the verification code.
Now, your business is verified, it may take Google a few days to get your business listed.
Note you can download the Google My Business app on your mobile phone to manage your business account from your dashboard.
How to Claim your Business Profile on Google
There are various methods you can use to claim an existing Google My Business profile.
The First Method: Go to Google search and locate your Business name and address, look for the “Own this Business” link and click it. On the next page click the Manage now button and follow the on-screen prompts to claim your business.
The Second Method: Use Google Business listing map to locate your business, click on manage this listing and continue with the prompts to confirm ownership.
The Third Method: You can as well login or signup to Google My Business and try searching for your business. Select the business and click on claim this business or add as a user and then follow the instructions to claim the business.
